Nettleton hires Cates as schools superintendent

NETTLETON, Miss. (AP) — Michael Cates is the new superintendent of the Nettleton School District.

Cates was the principal at Dorsey Attendance Center. He replaces Russell Taylor, who stepped down in January. Harvey Brooks has served as interim superintendent.

Nettleton School Board President Rhonda Patterson says the board was impressed by Cates' work at Dorsey and at Tremont before that.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports ( ) the Mississippi School Boards Association helped with the search. Eleven candidates applied. The school board interviewed three finalists.
