McNeese professor awarded Harvard fellowship

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — McNeese State University faculty member Philippe Girard has been awarded a Sheila Biddle Ford Fellowship to Harvard University's W.E.B. Du Bois Research Institute at the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The fellowship is for the fall 2014 term.

Girard is a professor and head of the history department at McNeese State.

During his residence, Girard will work on a biography of Haitian revolution leader Toussaint Louverture.
