SHELTON, Conn. (AP) — Zoning officials in Shelton have banned facilities that grow or dispense medical marijuana.
The Connecticut Post reports (http://bit.ly/1pjeHfY ) the city's Planning and Zoning Commission amended zoning regulations Tuesday night to include the ban.
Connecticut legalized the use of marijuana for medical purposes in 2012. In January, the state approved four growing sites in West Haven, Portland, Simsbury and Watertown.
In April, sites in Branford, Bridgeport, Bristol, Hartford, South Windsor and Uncasville were approved for dispensaries.
Shelton Corporation Counsel Thomas Welch says the city might reconsider its ban on the facilities if growing and distributing marijuana becomes legal under federal law.
