LAS VEGAS (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval has easily defeated four challengers in Nevada's Republican gubernatorial primary. The popular governor advances to the general election in November, where he'll face the winner of an eight-way Democratic primary. Sandoval is expected to cruise to re-election in the fall after Democrats failed to recruit a viable candidate.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada state lawmaker Lucy Flores has won the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor. The two-term assemblywoman from Las Vegas defeated Navy veteran Harley Kulkin in the primary last night. Flores enjoyed the support of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in her bid for lieutenant governor, whose primary job is to oversee tourism in Nevada.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — State Sen. Ben Kieckhefer (KEE'-keh-fer) withstood a challenge from the right and won the Nevada Republican primary in District 16. The freshman lawmaker was targeted by the conservative wing of the state GOP for supporting the continuation of taxes that were supposed to end. Kieckhefer will face Democrat Michael Kelley and Independent American Party candidate John H. Everhart in November.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Democrat Erin Bilbray has defeated a little-known opponent, and will now challenge Republican U.S. Rep. Joe Heck in November. Bilbray bested Zachary Campbell in yesterday's primary election for the 3rd District, which includes Henderson and parts of Las Vegas. Heck, who's a doctor and member of the Army Reserves, had raised almost four times as much cash as Bilbray ahead of the primary.
