LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has withdrawn his support from a deal to sell the team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. His attorney says Sterling will also pursue his $1 billion federal lawsuit against the NBA, charging his constitutional rights were violated.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Six-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer Amy Van Dyken is reported in good spirits, even though she severed her spinal cord in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Arizona over the weekend. The 41-year-old swimmer was injured Friday. She was airlifted to a hospital and had surgery to stabilize her spine.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The uproar over allegations of negligence at VA medical centers could turn into a federal case. Richard Griffin, the VA's acting inspector general, says his office is investigating 69 VA medical facilities nationwide for possible wrongdoing. The investigations could result in criminal charges.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gay couples across Wisconsin are rushing to get married ahead of an expected hold on a ruling that the state's same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional. At least 42 of Wisconsin's 72 counties were issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples on Monday, according to a canvass by The Associated Press.
NEW YORK (AP) — A startled carriage horse took a jaunt around New York's Central Park without any passengers or its driver. The horse became detached from its bridle on Monday evening and ran into the park, following its usual route. It looped back around to basically where it had started and was corralled y a group of carriage drivers. No injuries reported.
