BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah (AP) — A hiker has fallen to her death in Big Cottonwood Canyon near Salt Lake City.

Unified police say the 41-year-old Salt Lake County woman was hiking with family members when she slipped and fell about 100 feet Saturday afternoon.

Her name was not immediately released.

Police spokesman Ken Hansen told the Deseret News that runoff has made shale rock on the popular trail near Donut Falls where the accident occurred more slippery than normal.

The scenic canyon is located in the Wasatch Range about 12 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
