BOUNTIFUL — A 61-year-old man who was found in front of an abandoned burning house with second-degree burns on his arms and head was arrested Saturday.

Howard Treft, who formerly owned the house that was completely destroyed by the flames, was booked into Davis County Jail for suspicion of aggravated arson and intoxication following his release from Lakeview hospital.

Treft occasionally stayed in the abandoned house, according to South Davis Metro Fire Chief Jeff Bassett.

Bountiful Police Cpl. Scott Gilbert said Treft attempted to extinguish the fire with a hose.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. Gilbert added that Treft was investigated for his involvement in a suspicious fire at the same house in 2011.
