SALT LAKE CITY — An officer was punched, two people were arrested, one man was stabbed, and part of 600 South was closed after a concert turned violent in Salt Lake City.

The person responsible for the stabbing remains on the loose.

Police received a call just before midnight about a shooting during a concert at the Infinity Event Center, located at about 56 East and 600 South, according to Lt. Dave Cracroft of the Salt Lake City Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found no shooting but that one person had been stabbed. Officers immediately started looking for the stabber and closed off the area.

“We had quite a large group that was agitated, and because the club was over capacity we were not allowing more people inside. That created another problem,” Cracroft said.

Some people started arguing and fighting back as officers tried to mediate the situation and move people down the road. Then the situation escalated.

“We had one gentleman who turned and squared off the officer and assaulted the officer. He was taken to the ground and taken into custody,” Cracroft explained.

Another man was also arrested when police said he tried to fight officers to prevent them from arresting the assault suspect.

600 South has since reopened but police have not located a suspect in the stabbing.

The stabbing victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Cracroft said.
