SALT LAKE CITY — People of all ages can enjoy a free day of fishing in Utah on June 7.
Anyone who wants to try angling on Free Fishing Day can do so without a fishing license. In preparation for the event, extra fish will be placed in lakes and reservoirs across the state by the Department of Wildlife Services.
Catfish that are an average of 18 inches long will be stocked into ponds, according to the DWR. June is also one of the best months to try catching warm water fish, like bluegill, catfish and white bass, according to warm water sport fisheries coordinator Drew Cushing.
Fishing will be free throughout the state, and several fishing spots will be offering free activities in conjunction with the fishing day. Below are a few of the places that will have free events.

The 13th annual Bear River Celebration and Free Fishing Day offers interactive booths where people can learn how to tie a fishing fly, see historical re-enactments, have their face painted and participate in other activities. Free t-shirts will be given to the first 200 youth who finish a "Bear River adventure passport."
