WEST BOUNTIFUL — Several roads were closed and businesses were evacuated after a gas leak Tuesday morning.

A gas leak occurred at 500 West and 100 North around 9:30 a.m., according to the South Davis Fire Department. Several businesses were evacuated as a precaution including the Costco complex, the Shopko complex and Lowes.

No one was allowed to enter the parking lots of the businesses while they were under evacuation, but the businesses were reopened around 1 p.m., according to West Bountiful police. The gas line was capped around 12:30 p.m.

500 West was closed from 500 South to 400 North until about 3:30 p.m. Woods Cross police asked the public to avoid the area and to find alternate routes during their Tuesday morning travel.

The right lane of 500 West will remain closed to 100 South until Wednesday afternoon, according to officials from the Utah Department of Transportation.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
