RENO, Nev. (AP) — A federal judge in Reno has handed a five-year prison term to a former NV Energy computer technician convicted of soliciting a minor for sex in exchange for a laptop computer. Shane Bateman of Sparks was also ordered yesterday to serve 10 years' probation upon his release from prison. Bateman was arrested in Reno after a 16-year-old girl disclosed the incident to a Reno detective.
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A Las Vegas man convicted by a federal jury in Tucson in a sex case involving an underage girl has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. Prosecutors say Keith Deshawn Anderson transported a juvenile girl multiple times from Arizona to Nevada and engaged in statutory rape in 2011 and 2012.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say gang crime investigators are going to begin making house calls to identify and confirm suspected juvenile gang members. The department says adults suspected of being gang members or affiliates can expect to get notice by mail advising them of their status. Police say they want an accurate record of gang membership to help investigators curb criminal gang activity.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say the SLS Las Vegas hotel-casino will open in late August as part of a new chain of independently operated Hilton Worldwide hotels. An announcement yesterday puts the $415 million hotel on the Las Vegas Strip in Hilton's Curio brand. The hotel-casino will have 1,620 rooms and suites.
