PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) — Al Gore says the United States again has the "moral authority" to lead the world on the issue of climate change. Speaking today to graduates at Princeton University, the former vice president praised the plan that was announced by the Obama administration to cut carbon dioxide emissions from power plants over the next 15 years. Gore is a leading advocate on climate issues.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will urge European leaders this week to keep up pressure on Russia over its threatening moves in Ukraine. Obama's four day trip to Poland, Belgium and France comes against the backdrop of successful national elections in Ukraine and signs that Russia is moving most of its troops off its shared border with the former Soviet republic.
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — After months of blocking any Security Council action on Ukraine, Russia has called an emergency meeting to introduce a resolution demanding an immediate halt to deadly clashes in eastern Ukraine. The U.S. denounced the Russian efforts as "hypocritical" because it isn't stopping pro-Russian separatists from launching attacks.
WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is being treated and evaluated at a U.S. military hospital in Germany, amid continued questions back home about the swap that resulted in his freedom following five years in the hands of the Taliban. In exchange, five detainees were freed from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay. The White House is describing the exchange as "absolutely the right thing to do." But critics are wondering whether the freed prisoners will find their way back to the fight.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A nationwide manhunt for a San Francisco former political consultant has stretched into a third day. The FBI says he's wanted on suspicion of possessing explosives. Though he's considered armed and dangerous, an FBI spokesman says suspect Ryan Kelly Chamberlain II, does not pose an immediate threat to public safety.
