SALT LAKE CITY — In a letter addressed to online outlets commenting on the role of women in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a spokesman for the LDS Church offered "Context Missing from Discussion about Women."
“Comments on various blogs over recent months about what Church leaders should or should not think and do about women’s roles in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints prompt me to provide some context from an insider perspective that may be helpful," wrote Michael Otterson, the managing director of LDS Church Public Affairs.
The letter addresses three specific criticisms often raised on various blogs. The letter is available in its entirety on millennialstar.org.
After addressing the criticism, the letter includes a plea from Otterson for "less cynicism and criticism, more respectful dialogue, more kindness and civility and more generosity of spirit as those members who are prone to use the Internet engage with each other."
