SOUTH SALT LAKE — South Salt Lake police say two toddlers were among those injured when a woman reaching for her cell phone caused a crash.
Sgt. Parker with the South Salt Lake Police Department said a car was on the shoulder of a road late Thursday night. A woman had just loaded her children into the car when it was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by a woman who had been looking for her phone to answer it.
"She was distracted, took her eyes off the road for a minute, but that's all it takes,” Parker said. “She looked up and hit the car in front of her."
Six people from both vehicles were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.
Parker said even though answering a phone while driving isn’t against a new cellphone law, if you have to look for it, it’s better to just let it ring.
