SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A car crashed after running off Interstate 80 in Salt Lake City on Saturday morning, killing three passengers and critically injuring the driver.
Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Jeff Nigbur says the car was observed speeding away from a parking garage at Salt Lake City International Airport about 5 a.m.
He says an airport officer tried to make a traffic stop for a speeding violation, but was told to call off a chase after the car headed eastbound on I-80.
A short time later, the airport officer saw a dust cloud, and the car was found upside down in a retention pond.
Nigbur says two males and a female died, and the driver was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition.
Their names were not immediately released.
