AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Embattled University of Texas System Regent Wallace Hall is returning to work after lawmakers this week found grounds to impeach him.
UT System regents are meeting Wednesday to consider tuition hikes. At the flagship Austin campus, administrators want to raise undergraduate tuition by about 2 percent and push the average semester cost past $5,000.
It's the first board meeting since a bipartisan Texas House panel overwhelmingly voted Monday to pursue removing Hall as a regent. Hall was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry in 2011 and has come under fire for using the power of his office to investigate UT Austin President Bill Powers.
Prosecutors in Austin have also opened a separate criminal investigation into Hall.
Hall has denied breaking laws and argued that he was acting within his powers.
