US flights over Nigeria...Court halts Texas execution...Russia talks of ending space cooperation

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — U.S. reconnaissance aircraft have been flying over Nigeria today, searching for nearly 300 kidnapped schoolgirls. The Nigerian government has verified that video footage of the girls which surfaced yesterday is authentic. They say 54 of the girls have been identified by relatives, teachers and classmates.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Texas had been set to execute a convicted killer this evening, but a federal appeals court has put a stop to it. Robert James Campbell's attorneys say they need time to make a case that he is mentally impaired and ineligible for the death penalty. Campbell would have been the first U.S. inmate executed since a botched execution in Oklahoma two weeks ago.

ATLANTA (AP) — Police say five people have been shot near a high school in Atlanta. An Atlanta Public Schools spokeswoman says all of them are believed to be students. Police say the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. They say the shooter has not been caught. It's not clear whether the shooter also was a student.

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine's Defense Ministry says six soldiers were killed in an insurgent ambush today. Ukrainian forces have mounted an offensive to try to put down the armed rebellion in eastern Ukraine. Insurgents say the separatist leader in Luhansk was shot and wounded. Luhansk is one of the regions that declared independence yesterday.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia's deputy prime minister says his country doesn't intend to use the International Space Station past the year 2020. In comments reported by Russian news agencies, Dmitry Rogozin says the decision would keep the United States from using the orbiting laboratory. NASA says it has not been notified of any changes.
