INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The State Board of Education will meet Tuesday to discuss the federal government's warning that Indiana could lose its waiver from a waiver from requirements contained in the No Child Left Behind law.
The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/1g9e0gC ) the meeting was scheduled at the request of five members of the state board.
In a May 1 letter, Assistant U.S. Education Secretary Deborah Delisle told Indiana schools Superintendent Glenda Ritz that federal monitors had identified problems with the state's handling of the waiver. The issues include handling of teacher and principal evaluations, monitoring of college- and career-ready standards and technical assistance for local school districts.
The state has 60 days to respond to Delisle's letter.
Gov. Mike Pence has asked the board to work with Ritz in addressing the issues.
