EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A state commission is scheduled to vote on whether to spend $2 million on planning for Indiana University's proposed new medical school campus in downtown Evansville.
The Indiana Commission for Higher Education meets Thursday in Evansville. The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/1iIw3zY ) the $2 million is already allocated in the state budget. University officials have said they plan to seek money for construction of the new $70 million medical school campus during next year's legislative session.
IU vice president Thomas Morrison says the State Budget Committee could give final approval for the planning funds in June.
The University of Evansville, the University of Southern Indiana and Ivy Tech Community College also plan to offer programs at the Evansville campus, which could draw some 2,000 health care students.
