ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The operator of the Resorts World Casino New York City at the Aqueduct Racetrack has released details of a resort casino it's hoping to build in Orange County.
Genting Group says Monday it's proposing a 238-acre resort on the site of the Tuxedo Ridge Ski Center that will include a casino, two hotels, restaurants and facilities for year-round outdoor recreation, including skiing.
The property was home to a botanical garden opened by Dutch Queen Beatrix in 1958 and has long hosted the New York Renaissance Faire.
Malaysia-based Genting says the project would create more than 2,000 jobs.
Developers hoping to win one of four upstate casino licenses paid application fees to the state last week. Twenty-two fees of $1 million each were submitted. Selections will be made this fall.
