PROVO — Just one day after reporting that BYU guard Matt Carlino would begin official visits next month, ESPN's Jeff Goodman reported on Friday afternoon that Carlino has decided to transfer to Marquette.

BYU announced on April 1 that Carlino had decided to transfer to another program for his last season of eligibility. Because Carlino will graduate from BYU in June, he will be eligible to play immediately for the Golden Eagles next season.

Marquette is in the middle of a transition to a new head coach. Longtime Duke assistant Steve Wojciechowski was hired at the beginning of April to replace Buzz Williams, who left to take the head coaching job at Virginia Tech.

The Golden Eagles finished the 2013-14 season with a 17-15 record. They also finished sixth in the Big East at 9-9. Marquette also failed to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament for the first time in eight years.

Carlino leaves BYU in the top 10 in team history in career assists (7th), steals (6th) and 3-point field goals (6th) and 27th on the all-time scoring list.

Ironically, Carlino's final game as a BYU Cougar was in the NCAA tournament against Oregon at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, the arena where Marquette plays its home games.
