Randall Jeppesen reportingA potential immigrant smuggling ring has been busted after two men in a van were stopped along I-80.
The suspects were pulled over just outside of Coalville. Inside the van, troopers found fifteen illegal immigrants on their way to New York.
UHP Trooper Jeff Nigbur says this doesn't happen often and it's something difficult to look for.
Jeff Nigbur: "Can you look on any vehicle on the road and go, 'That van is full or that vehicle is full of illegal aliens?' No you can't."
Court documents show that the two men told police they were hired by a bus company out of California to transport illegal immigrants. A federal investigation is now looking into that company. The two men could face ten years in federal prison if convicted.
