LIBERTY PROVOST

LYNCHBURG — Liberty University Provost Ron Godwin's duties have been reduced following a mix-up involving a biblical studies certificate program. Liberty says in a statement on its website that the 76-year-old Godwin will no longer serve as vice president of academic affairs. SENT: 130 words. UPCOMING: 400 words by noon.

LIGHT RAIL —The state is offering to pay up to $155 million to extend light rail in Virginia Beach, as long as it doesn't use magnetic levitation technology.

RESERVE OFFICER KILLED — A fifth person faces gang-related charges linked to the death of a Waynesboro reserve police officer.

NORTH ANNA-ASSESSMENT — Dominion Virginia Power's North Anna nuclear power plant will undergo a new seismic risk assessment.

GOK RESTRUCTURING — A Chinese furniture maker in Danville has closed for restructuring. GOK International has planned to bring 600 jobs to the city, with half of those filled by 2016.

UVA-DARDEN DEAN — The dean of the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia is returning to the faculty in 2015.

HISTORIC SCHOOLS — Two former Rosenwald schools in Virginia are being recognized for their education of young black students.
