BOY HIT BY TRUCK

5-year-old on bike struck by 18-wheeler in Boise

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A southwestern Idaho boy was seriously injured Monday afternoon when he was struck by an 18-wheeler.

Boise police say the five-year-old child was riding a bicycle when the truck hit him near the intersection of Cole Road and Fairview Avenue just before 3:30 p.m.

The boy was riding with a five-year-old girl when the collision happened, according to police.

Witnesses say he was pedaling across Fairview Avenue behind the girl when the truck hit him.

The boy was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

The injured child's parents arrived at the scene a short time later, and police say they are with him at the hospital.

Police have closed the road in order to reconstruct the crash.

BSU-SEX ASSAULT LAWSUIT

2 women sue Boise State over sex assault response

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Two former Boise State University students are suing the school because they say athletic officials ignored their reports of sexual assault and harassment by a star athlete.

The women are represented by nationally known attorney Gloria Allred, who has handled similar lawsuits in several other states. They contend Boise State University athletic officials knew the athlete who abused them had a record of serially harassing and assaulting fellow students, and that the school's failure to take action spurred the athlete to continue the behavior.

The Associated Press typically does not identify victims of sexual assault. The lawsuit doesn't identify the athlete the women say committed the assaults other than to call him a "men's star track and field athlete." BSU officials did not respond to requests for comment.

HIT-AND-RUN ARREST

Idaho man arrested in hit-and-run

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho man has been arrested after a runner was injured during a hit-and-run crash in McCammon.

The Idaho State Police say they arrested 36-year-old Chancy Lancaster of Kimberly on Friday, a day after 48-year-old runner Mark Haddock was struck and injured. Lancaster faces a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident.

Haddock's father, Mike, said his son went over the hood and roof of the vehicle and landed 10 feet away in the gravel. Mike Haddock said his son suffered leg and chest injuries.

JAILER SHOVES INMATE

Idaho jailer sentenced for shoving inmate

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Elmore County jailer caught on video flinging a female inmate into a wall was sentenced Friday.

Sgt. Tom Robison was ordered to spend 5 days in jail or complete 100 hours of community service for his role in the December 2012 incident.

KBOI reports the inmate was shouting at deputies when the jailer shoved her hard enough to knock her off her feet.

Another deputy who told a captain what happened said his concerns were dismissed.

Former Elmore County deputy Jason Mittleider was fired after he brought the matter to investigators, who launched an inquiry.

Robison was reduced in rank, but continues to work at the jail.

Defense attorneys said the inmate has a history of attacks on law enforcement, and the video doesn't tell the whole story.

PAUL, Idaho (AP) — A southern Idaho high school student and her two brothers lost six family members when a drunken driver hit the family car in Mexico.

Avila Gomez says she doesn't know if the bank will let them keep the house. A benefit dinner is scheduled at First Baptist Church in Paul on April 23.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A Twin Falls man who was charged with kidnapping, raping and trying to strangle a woman in December has pleaded guilty to violating a no-contact order after the defense found surveillance video of the two holding hands and shopping during part of the time when she said the attack was happening.

The Times-News reports 39-year-old Steven Ray Stone pleaded guilty Friday in exchange for dismissal of the other charges and a recommended probationary sentence. He has spent 133 days in jail and is to be sentenced on June 2.

Stone told District Judge Randy Stoker he had been living with the woman at the time she had a restraining order against him. Stoker reminded Stone the no-contact order remains in place.

Court records say Stone has been convicted of numerous misdemeanors for harassing the woman.

(Information in the following story is from: Coeur d'Alene Press, http://www.cdapress.com)

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A movie set to be released later this week focuses on the 2002 murder of a northern Idaho man and the drug smuggling rivalry that led to the crime.

Director John Stockwell told the Coeur d'Alene Press that he was fascinated by the crime story after reading about it in Rolling Stone. He took it to HBO films to be optioned, and the movie, "Kid Cannabis," will be released on April 18.

The movie revisits the life of Kootenai County drug smuggler Brenden Butler and his rival, Nate Norman. Butler hired someone to kill Norman, but instead was killed by his own hit man.

Kootenai County Sheriff's Sgt. Brad Maskell took part in the investigation. Maskell says he's not surprised to see the complex case become a movie.
