LEHI — Firefighters began battling a brush fire near Northlake Park Monday afternoon.
Police and emergency responders weren't sure how the fire started near 500 West and 2100 South in Lehi, but they began actively fighting it around 2 p.m. A fire engine and two brush units were dispatched to the area and crews from Lehi, Saratoga Springs and Utah County worked on the fire, according to Lehi City spokesperson, Robert Ranc.
The flames burned around 10 acres including areas near several homes, but officials said they didn't believe the homes were in danger. No evacuations had been issued as of 2 p.m.
Ranc said several of the areas were marshy and fire crews were unable to drive fire trucks there so officials decided to allow the fire to continue burning. Officials said in allowing the controlled burn, it would also eliminate fire hazards for the summer. The area is being monitored.
