WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) — A former Westerly High School girls' basketball coach blames significant and persistent interference from parents for her decision to resign last month.
Holly Misto told The Westerly Sun (http://bit.ly/1hEe9Ov ) that she could no longer effectively coach because of significant interference from several parents who misunderstand what she said is "the meaning of team."
She said a few parents relentlessly sought to find fault with her and questioned her reputation and character.
Jan McLaughlin, whose daughter Maddy was the leading scorer, said she did not see or know of conduct that would prompt Misto to quit.
Lou Laudone, a former head coach of the boys' team and one of Misto's three assistants who resigned March 14, said parents had concerns about Misto's coaching style, but he saw no behavior that would have required Misto to resign.
