SCHOOL VOUCHERS

PHOENIX — An aggressive media campaign and expanded eligibility helped double the number of applicants for the state's school voucher program, which allows students to use public funds for a private education. The number of applications received by the Arizona Department of Education this year for the 2014-2015 school year is 2,479, compared to last year's 1,100. By Astrid Galvan. SENT: 400 words.

RANGE SHOWDOWN

Federal land managers abruptly ended a roundup of cattle on public land in southern Nevada from a rancher who has refused to recognize their authority, citing a "serious concern" for the safety of employees and the public. Bureau of Land Management chief Neil Kornze made the announcement Saturday morning at the same time armed militia members and others gathered near the roundup site to protest the removal of hundreds of Cliven Bundy's cattle. LEGISLATORS GIFT DISCLOSURES

PHOENIX — Several Arizona lawmakers failed to disclose free trips made last year as required by state law, spotlighting the difficulty in enforcing guidelines on the issue.
