FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) — A former teacher and basketball coach from Kaysville will serve up to 20 years in prison for carrying on a sexual relationship with a former student. Thirty-four-year-old Stephen Niedzwiecki was sentenced yesterday after pleading guilty. The victim, who is now 18, told police that the sexual abuse began in 2011, after she finished ninth grade at Jefferson Academy in Kaysville.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The U.S. Attorney for the Utah has announced he will step down sometime this summer after about three years in the post. David Barlow says he's leaving for family reasons but did give details. He said he will return to private practice at Chicago law firm Sidley Austin. He was nominated for the position by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2011.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities have arrested a Utah high school student who is accused of attacking a school resource officer. A Granite School District spokesman says the incident began yesterday at Granger High School when the teen and other students became belligerent after they were given truancy notices.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A new report finds that the number of children in Utah with health insurance, but the number of Hispanic children who are insured is lagging. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation says about 9 in 10 Utah kids are insured but a quarter of Hispanic children are not. Researchers say they expect overall figures to improve under the Affordable Care Act.
