DETROIT (AP) — Two 18-year-old Wayne State University students have been charged in the theft of more than $42,000 in checks payable to a radio station.
The Wayne County sheriff's office says Samuel Cooper and Eric Perez were arraigned Thursday on two counts each of larceny from a building.
The 12 checks from various companies were made payable to WDET-FM and taken Monday from a dorm room on the school's Detroit campus. A student employee of the station had been assigned to deposit them.
Cooper and Perez were arrested Tuesday after a Friend of the Court worker surprised two men going through her purse in an employee-only area in a downtown Detroit office building. The worker's iPad was stolen.
Preliminary examinations are April 17. It's unclear if the men have lawyers.
