SALT LAKE CITY — A woman in a stolen car rammed a deputy's vehicle twice near the end of a police chase on I-15 Wednesday, police said.

The chase began in Salt Lake City when Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division officers located a stolen gray Toyota Tundra and began trailing it about 1:30 p.m., according to the Davis County Sheriff's Office. They followed the pickup truck to the west side of Salt Lake City and the driver of the Tundra fled at a high rate of speed, according to investigators.

The pursuit was terminated after officers encountered high traffic, but the pickup truck was located again in Farmington after a description of the vehicle was broadcast to other officers, police said. Another pursuit was initiated by the Farmington Police Department, but police said it ended for a second time when the truck left Farmington.

Deputies from the Davis County Sheriff’s Office picked up the pursuit for the third time and began following the Tundra, without lights or sirens on, traveling south on I-15, police said. The woman drove at the speed limit until she reached North Salt Lake, when police said she accelerated.

Investigators said in an attempt to spike the tires of the vehicle and stop the chase, they had laid out spike strips on the road.

"When the suspect saw the spike strips, she stopped suddenly and began backing down the freeway," a statement from the Davis County Sheriff’s Office reads. "The suspect backed into the jersey barrier and a deputy blocked her vehicle in the front. The suspect then accelerated forward and rammed the deputy’s vehicle, backed up and rammed it a second time."

She was taken into custody by deputies after she reached the northbound 2600 South offramp of I-15, police said.

No one was injured during the chase, police said. The incident is currently under investigation by the Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division and the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.

Multiple charges are pending, according to the Davis County Sheriff's Office. More information will be updated when it becomes available.
