TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Supreme Court says prosecutors do not have an absolute right to veto a judge's desire to sentence a person to a mental health court program. The Twin Falls Times-News reports that the case was part of an appeal by a Twin Falls woman who pleaded guilty to a drug charge in 2005. The Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the post-judgment veto power rests with the courts.
BONNERS FERRY, Idaho (AP) — Radar is being used to help reduce accidents between vehicles and wildlife along a stretch of U.S. 95 in northern Idaho. The system is being installed along a 2-mile stretch of the highway where 75 percent of reported accidents in the last five years have been wildlife-vehicle collisions. The radar sets off flashing lights to warn approaching drivers to slow down.
MERIDIAN, Idaho (AP) — A paramedic school in Meridian has closed, leaving some students in the program with questions about completing their training. Students say they were told this past week that Guardian College was shut down and the school would not graduate their class. Owner Loralei Sturkie tells KBOI-TV blamed changing federal regulations with student loans and the federal health care law for forcing the college to close.
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude-4.8 earthquake that shook northern Yellowstone National Park is the strongest there since 1980. But yesterday's quake was still considered relatively light, and its location didn't raise concerns about the park's supervolcano.
