COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho city is looking at eliminating a local ordinance banning weapons from parades and festivals enacted years ago when Aryan Nations members used to march annually.
The Coeur d'Alene General Services Committee on Monday voted to have the city attorney's office review the constitutionality of the law.
Their findings will be presented to the city council.
City Councilman Steve Adams says he wants to eliminate the ban because he thinks it's unnecessary and unconstitutional.
City Attorney Mike Gridley says the ordinance was enacted following conflicts between marchers and spectators at parades.
Gridley says Aryan Nations marches through town attracted many protesters.
Adams says the gun ban was just an over-reaction to Aryan Nations parades.

(Information in the following story is from: Lewiston Tribune, http://www.lmtribune.com)
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — A man serving two life sentences for killing his ex-wife and her boyfriend is appealing a judge's ruling dismissing his petitions for post-conviction relief.
The Lewiston Tribune reports that Dale Shackelford filed the notice of appeal Friday in 2nd District Court.
Shackelford in 2000 was convicted of shooting Donna Fontaine and Fred Palahniuk to death in the northern Idaho town of Kendrick in 1999. He was sentenced to death.
However, the U.S. Supreme Court later ruled that juries, not judges, must hand down death sentences. At a new sentencing hearing Shackelford received two fixed life sentences.
He sought shorter sentences, but Latah County 2nd District Judge John R. Stegner dismissed the petitions for post-conviction relief two weeks ago.
Shackelford is appealing that decision.

Cellphone video in SW Idaho park leads to arrest
EAGLE, Idaho (AP) — A cellphone video made by a 16-year-old boy at a southwest Idaho park has led to the arrest of an 18-year-old man on suspicion of felony aggravated assault.
Police on Monday took into custody Jordan A. Charles after examining the video police say shows Charles threatening the victim with a knife.
Police say Charles threated a boy and girl in Orval Krasen Park about 7 p.m. on Sunday with the knife after asking them for cigarettes.
After getting home the boy called police. But police didn't find Charles when they went to the park.
Police say they found Charles in the park on Monday wearing the same clothes as in the video.
He is being held in the Ada County Jail.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A federal judge in Boise is reviewing text message transcripts to determine if an FBI agent lied on the witness stand in the hours before she committed suicide.
The Idaho Statesman reports that U.S. District Court Judge B. Lynn Winmill on Monday also instructed the U.S. Marshals Service to retain courtroom security camera tapes.
Authorities say 34-year-old Rebekah E. Morse died of a self-inflected gunshot to the head the evening of March 19 or the morning of March 20.
On March 18 and 19 she testified at a securities-fraud trial involving the failed Boise-area real estate company DBSI Inc.
When being questioned by Winmill, Morse denied texting while on the witness stand.
Morse's phone was confiscated and placed in a secured court evidence vault.
