PERTH, Australia (AP) — Media reports in China say the latest sighting of possible debris from the missing Malaysian airliner has been made by a Chinese search aircraft. Xinhua (shin-wah) News Agency reports the plane crew spotted a white, square-shaped object. The massive search continues to center on the southern Indian Ocean. The U.S. is sending a black box locator, a ship-towed electronic device.

TEXAS CITY, Texas (AP) — A barge that collided with a ship and spilled oil in Galveston Bay is still holding up traffic in one of the world's busiest waterways. Officials say the spill is significant, but the rest of the oil in the barge has been pumped to other vessels, eliminating the risk of more spills. The Coast Guard says up to 168,000 gallons spilled and that oil had been detected 12 miles offshore.

SEATTLE (AP) — Officials say the potential for flooding is somewhat reduced now that water that built up behind a massive deadly mudslide in Washington state has begun trickling downstream. The slide killed at least eight people and crews are looking for others reported missing. The 1-square-mile mudslide that struck Saturday morning also critically injured several people and destroyed about 30 homes.

MONTROSE, Colo. (AP) — Recovery work will resume Monday at a Colorado reservoir where a plane went down Saturday. The five people aboard are feared dead. Sonar images Sunday showed the fuselage appeared to be intact and the wings still attached. Authorities are trying to get additional crews and equipment in place.

DETROIT (AP) — Michigan is keeping hundreds of same-sex marriages in limbo while an appeals court sorts out legal issues. Hundreds of marriages were performed in the hours before an appeals court put on hold a judge's ruling that tossed out a state ban on same-sex marriage. The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is considering whether to extend the stay and Michigan says recognition of weddings already performed is on hold.
