SALT LAKE CITY — Utah ranks the third-highest in the nation for employment outlook in the coming months, according to a recent survey.
Manpower.com is a national employment research company and it recently released a comprehensive survey of national and global employment data for the second quarter of 2014. The company interviewed 18,000 companies nationwide.
Utah companies report a 27 percent increase in hiring projected between April and June, bringing the state in at No. 3 in the country for employment.
“The Quarter 2 survey results show significantly more optimistic hiring plans compared to Quarter 1 when the net employment outlook was 8 percent,” Manpower spokesperson Sunny Ackerman said. “Compared to one year ago when the net employment outlook was 18 percent, employers are more confident about their staffing plans.”
The top industries projected the hire the highest rates are construction and manufacturing, according to the survey.
Provo was listed in the top five cities in the country for projected job growth during the second quarter of 2014. As a large college city, this sits well for students who will be looking for summer employment as the winter semester ends.
North Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Alaska also made it into the top five along with Utah. New Mexico, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kansas and Arkansas came in last with the worst job growth outlook for April to June.
