SALT LAKE CITY — All lanes of I-80 eastbound reopened through Parleys Canyon after a semitruck caught on fire, closing all the lanes for hours Wednesday morning.
UHP trooper Parker Thomas said the driver of a FedEx truck noticed the cab on fire around 2 a.m. when it was near the Lambs Canyon exit. He and the co-driver escaped safely.
No injuries were reported and the fire was extinguished, but the truck sustained significant damage.
FedEx said as soon as it’s safe, crews will try to unload the packages in the charred semi and reload them into another truck to be shipped out. If any of the packages are damaged, FedEx said it will contact the owners directly to resolve the situation.
Investigators don't know yet what caused the fire.
Traffic was backed up for miles.
