KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Left-hander Mike Gonzalez has agreed to a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals and will compete with Xavier Cedeno for a bullpen job.
The 35-year-old had a 3.03 ERA with no decision in 47 games for Washington in 2012, then had an 0-3 record with a 4.68 ERA in 75 games for Milwaukee last season.
"He's been around the block and knows how to get lefties out," Nationals manager Matt Williams said Tuesday. "It's a little late in the game, but we'll see where he's at."
Washington acquired Jerry Blevins from Oakland during the offseason to be its primary lefty reliever.
