SALT LAKE CITY — Yoeli Childs had a double-double, with 14 points and 12 rebounds, leading Bingham past West 73-42 in the first round of the 5A boys state basketball tournament.

Bingham was 6-12 from the 3-point line, led by Jordan Evans, who was 2-3 from beyond the arc and finished with 13 points.

West kept the game close in the first half and trailed by one heading to the locker room. Riley Kenner had 13 points to lead the Panthers and was 2-4 from the 3-point line.

Bingham would pull away in the second half as Childs dominated the paint with two big dunks and key rebounds.

As a team, the Miners shot 58.8 percent in the second half, while holding West to just 20.7 percent shooting.

The Miners advance to play Lone Peak in the 5A quarterfinals on Thursday.
