WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Police are going door-to-door and using aircraft in a search for a 12-year-old special education student who was last seen at her school in West Valley City. Authorities say Ashley Esquivel was reported missing last evening when her mother went to pick her up from a school activity and couldn't find her. She's described as 5 feet 4 inches tall with medium-length black hair. Police said they have no indication that she's a runaway.
OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Federal officials are proposing a $55,000 fine for a Utah helicopter tour company accused of violating drug and alcohol testing regulations. The FAA has proposed the fine against Ogden-based Whirlybird Helicopters. The company has 30 days from the time they received notice of the fine to respond.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The leader of Senate Republicans at the Utah Legislature says he understands the feelings of voters who want the state to conceal their information. Home addresses and dates of birth belonging to registered voters are currently available to the public. But two pending Utah measures would restrict access to the personal details. Critics say such proposals could hide too much.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A proposal to move a medical waste-burning facility from North Salt Lake to a remote location in Tooele has cleared another step. House lawmakers voted unanimously yesterday to approve the measure. A recent state study indicated that towns surrounding the facility had higher cancer rates, but researchers said the results are not definitive.
