SALT LAKE CITY – Sam Merrill recorded 20 points and Josh Pollard had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds in leading the No. 1 Bountiful Braves to a 76-44 win over Provo in the first round of the Class 4A Boys State Tournament Monday at the Huntsman Center.
Provo kept it close early and trailed by only two after the first quarter, but the Braves outscored the Bulldogs 45-16 in the second and third quarters.
Bountiful shot 55.8 percent from the field and outrebounded Provo, 36-20.
Hunter Bailey led Provo with 14 points.
Bountiful now moves on to face Mountain View in Wednesday’s quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m.
