A senior military official says the Pentagon has suspended engagements with the Russian military. And a U.S. official says the U.S. won't move forward with meetings designed to deepen the trade relationship. At the White House, President Barack Obama met with his national security team.
PHOENIX (AP) — A police official in Phoenix says an officer is fighting for his life after a shootout on Monday that left another officer and a suspect dead. The two veterans were part of a unit serving a felony warrant. The shooting happened after the suspect caused a three-car collision in a bid to escape. He was fatally shot by a third officer.
DENVER (AP) — A Colorado woman has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for buying the handgun used by a paroled member of a white supremacist prison gang who killed a prisons official, a computer technician and a pizza delivery driver. Evan Ebel (EE'-bul) was killed in a shootout with Texas authorities. The judge found that Stevie Marie Ann Vigil was manipulated into buying the weapon.
AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) — The Air Force Academy is investigating whether 40 freshman cadets cheated in a chemistry class. The school says some cadets possibly copied portions of a lab report assignment. Cheating is forbidden by the academy's honor code.
NEW YORK (AP) — America's top diplomat has held an unofficial but key meeting during a stop in New York to refuel before flying to Kiev, Ukraine. Secretary of State John Kerry took a quick stop to visit his brand new granddaughter, born Monday at a New York hospital. It's Kerry's fifth grandchild, and she was born to his daughter, Alexandra, who is a film director and producer.
