The Texas state primary elections take place on Tuesday, March 4. The state is the first to hold its primaries ahead of the midterm elections in November. The following is a rundown of national coverage plans from The Associated Press. A separate advisory with additional coverage plans has moved for state customers. All times ET.
Polls are open from 8 a.m. and the last precincts close at 9 p.m. Please note that poll hours may be extended if predicted winter weather strikes in Texas.
AUSTIN, Texas — In the nation's first primary of the season, Texas politicians scramble to fill a void left by an extraordinary shakeup in state offices. Following Gov. Rick Perry's announcement that he would not seek another term, up-and-comers are vying to fill a slate of open seats from the governor's office on down. It's the first time since 2002 that so many statewide offices are on the ballot, and the races are largely focused on one question: How far to the right will Texas go, and how will that shape Texas' political identity in the future?
