NEW YORK, May 30, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- An infection following back surgery forced tenor Luciano Pavarotti Tuesday to postpone his June concert in Washington and four in Canada.
Pavarotti Worldwide Farewell Tour concerts in Washington, Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto will be rescheduled for October, Pavarotti's London-based manager, Terri Robson, announced on the singer's Web site, www.lucianopavarotti.com.
Pavarotti, 70, traveled to New York in March for treatment of "back problems" and subsequently underwent "100 percent successful" surgery, Robson said in the statement.
"However, he went on to develop an infection during his stay in the hospital," Robson said. "This condition has unfortunately delayed his recovery time."
Robson said the tenor was undergoing intensive physical therapy in New York with a goal of resuming the tour in July.
"Luciano apologizes to his many disappointed fans for having to reschedule these concerts," Robson said. "Happily, he is now well on his way to recovery and very much looks forward to continue celebrating his career with the Pavarotti Worldwide Farewell Tour."
