SPANISH FORK - A mother and her three children were displaced early Sunday morning after a fire ripped through their home.
At about 2 a.m., the family left their home at 345 N. 200 East when it began to fill with smoke. They then went to a neighbor's house to call 911, said Lt. Matt Johnson of the Spanish Fork Police Department.
Once crews arrived, police evacuated three surrounding homes.
"It appears the fire engulfed the entire residence and the residence is a total loss," Johnson said.
Johnson said the fire may have been started by a free-standing heater that Cook said was in her kitchen. However, the cause of the fire is still under investigation with the assistance of the State Fire Marshal.
Homeowner Christina Cook was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation, but Johnson said she did not go to the hospital. The children — 14- and 12-year-old boys and a 10-year-old girl — were not injured.
Johnson said the Cooks are staying with family, but they are also receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
