SALT LAKE CITY — A woman who caused a head-on collision by driving the wrong direction on I-80 was admitted to a psychiatric unit Tuesday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Two lanes of the freeway were closed near 1300 West following the accident, which occurred just before 4 p.m. Tuesday. UHP received calls reporting a gray Dodge Intrepid driving eastbound in westbound lanes.

The driver, 24-year-old Julia Young, was fully aware she was driving the wrong way and was taken to a psychiatric unit at the University of Utah for suicidal feelings, according to UHP. Young, who is a Salt Lake City resident, was given a full medical evaluation for minor injuries.

She collided with a Dodge Avenger, according to UHP. The driver of the Avenger was transported with minor injuries to a hospital in an ambulance.
