SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Grizzlies will close out a six-game road trip Friday in Colorado before returning to Utah, and goalie Ben Meisner won't be making the trip back.
Mesiner was traded to Fort Wayne Komets Thursday for Forward Phil Mangan. Mangan had three assists in 15 games for the Komets, while last year he had 12 goals and 10 assists (22 point) in 55 games with Stockton, South Carolina and Bakersfield.
After shipping off Mesiner the Grizzlies will get back Aaron Dell, who has been on the AHL Manchester Monarchs. Dell was 2-1 with the Grizzlies with a 2.35 goals-against-average and a .919 save percentage. He won his last two starts back in November, including a shutout victory and a win in a shootout where he stopped 50-52 shots.
The Grizzlies also shipped defense Tyler Hinds to South Carolina in deal that the Grizzlies will receive future considerations.
The Grizzlies needed to do something to spark this team, which has five games on their current six-game road trip. The Grizzlies have struggled on the road all season, but forward Vinny Scarsella played well in Utah's last series against Alaksa. He scored in all three games for the Grizzlies and leads the Grizzlies with a three-game scoring streak.
Utah hope to build some momentum Friday night in Colorado before returning to play the same team at the Maverik Center in West Valley City Saturday. The Grizzlies will be back at home for the first time in 22 days, where they have a post-game skate and will be giving away 2014 team calendars.
