Paul Nelson ReportingSearch and Rescue crews are getting ready for the busy summer season. Salt Lake County Special Operations Lieutenant Jon Fassett says rescues cost on average $2,000 each.
"If you compare that to the value of one life, it's really not that much money," says Fassett.
He says more rescues like this are expected soon, noting that most of the rescues happen in the summer. He says over half of all rescues last year happened between June and August.
"Creeks are very high, really dangerous. We've already had one fatality," said Fassett.
Fassett also says they had to perform 44 rescues overall in 2005, costing nearly $88 thousand dollars. So, far this year they've had twelve, which officials say is right on pace with last year.
