Marc Giauque reportingGas prices may be changing some of your summer travel plans. With gas prices hovering around $3.00 a gallon, many people are telling AAA they'll be cutting back a bit. Others are banking on that idea.

Rick Leyba: "You take this, push on this, cast it out there."

Once in a while, Rick Leyba will pause from his job as host of the Camper-World near Coalville, to help someone learn how to fish. In his conversations with campers gas prices do come up.

Rick Leyba: "A lot of them complain, especially now that diesel is so much higher than gas."

This is part of a national chain of membership campgrounds. It's not far at all from the Wasatch front.

Gary Cedarman: "Forty-three miles. I knew it ahead of time."

Gary Cedarman came here from East Layton in his motor home and he pays close attention to mileage.

Gary Cedarman: "You know if I keep it at 60 or below, I get thirteen. But if I go over 60, I get eight. When I came up here at 55, it worked like a charm. Now some of you may be thinking I change a tire at 55, but easing back on the pedal is one way to save the gas. "

Cedarman found his own way to adjust.

Gary Cedarman: "Well we've quit eating, no I'm full of it."

Seriously, he sympathizes with others.

Gary Cedarman: "I'm sure it's going to impact some of the small children and large families. It's cutting into their savings and everything."

But it could be better for local campgrounds like this one, who expect more business from people like Mark Blakely from Roy.

Mark Blakely: "With this being so close to the big city, instead of it being packed on Friday, it's going to be pack Wednesday night or Thursday night."

Leyba's company might be banking on it.

Rick Leyba: "As a general consensus, Campworld does believe that more people will stay closer to their homes."

But campers who spoke to us say even a few miles from home can be a vacation, especially if your not at work.
