SALT LAKE CITY — Police Sunday were searching Geoffrey Guess, 26, and another white male in his 20s who both fled after driving through a fence at Salt Lake International Airport.

The men were in a silver truck that crashed through the airport fence at 10:55 a.m. Police said the driver was evading a Utah Highway Patrol trooper after committing a traffic violation on I-80 at about 7200 West.

The truck exited the freeway at 5600 West, went through the fence just north of 5600 West, traveled across a field for about half a mile and then drove into a ditch, according to police.

"The road dead ends and he just drove right through it. It was just a chain link fence, probably knocked down approximately 30 feet of fence," Sgt. Michael Irvine of Utah Highway Patrol, said.

Guess and the passenger fled on foot, dropping a gun as they ran. Police said they could be dangerous but there was no security breach to the airport.

"We set up a containment to attempt to find the suspects. We brought in a K-9 to track them and lost the suspects," Irvine said. "We’re in the process of trying to identify the suspects that were in the truck. ... The truck was listed out of California."

Police found five pounds of marijuana wrapped in duct tape inside the car, and think the men may have been picked up by a woman in a late '90s Honda Accord also with California license plates.

Guess has an extensive criminal history of stolen cars and drugs, according to police.
