SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating what they believe is a gang-related shooting.
Lt. Dave Craycroft of the Salt Lake Police Department said that an officer was flagged down at about 2:03 a.m. Saturday at 340 E 400 South in Salt Lake City. He found the 23-year-old male victim in the front passenger seat of the car with three bullet wounds.
"There were two females (in the car), one driving and another passenger. They were not injured," Craycroft said.
The officer on scene reported that there were several bullet holes in right side the car.
Police said they don't know where, why or even when the shooting took place, because the victim and the two witness are "not being cooperative," according to Craycroft.
The victim is a "known gang member, and he's been in several different problems in the past," Craycroft said.
"I would be fairly sure that it is gang-related," Craycroft said.
Craycroft said that the gang unit is handling the follow-up.
The man was reportedly shot in the face, shoulder and leg. He was taken to the hospital where he is in critical but stable condition, according to Lt. Scott White of the SLCPD
White also said that one of the witnesses, Celina Garcia, 18, was booked into jail for felony obstruction charges.
