JOHANNESBURG (AP) - South African police say they have arrested a Czech fugitive on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping.

Police said Radovan Krejcir, who has been linked to underworld figures in Johannesburg, was detained late Friday.

South African media have reported the killings of several of his associates in recent weeks. Earlier this year, remote-controlled gun barrels rigged behind a car license plate sprayed bullets at Krejcir's car, but he emerged unscathed.

Krejcir was sentenced in his country last year to 11 years in jail for tax fraud.
